The Montessori Consortium of the Great Lakes advances educational best practices according to the vision of Maria Montessori. The consortium accomplishes this by:
- aiding in the production and dissemination of independent research focused on Montessori philosophy, pedagogy, and outcomes,
- fostering engagement, collaboration, and professional development among schools - Montessori and non-Montessori, public and private, independent and parochial, pre-K through post-secondary - and
- raising awareness of Montessori philosophy in teacher training programs, in educational policy discussions, and among the general public.
The Montessori Consortium of the Great Lakes is headquartered within Good Shepherd Montessori School (GSMS) in South Bend, Indiana. Founded in 2002 with 16 children in grades 1 - 3, GSMS has grown to serve 165 children annually, age 3 - grade 8.
